THE STORY SO FAR

SCROLL DOWN

THE STORY SO FAR

how it all began

In 2012, Carol Cooke, owner and founder of BAFTA-winning Scrumptious Productions, set off to Uganda to make a documentary about the most entrepreneurial country in the world. What she found was a growing band of female entrepreneurs, who defy all statistics, stereotypes and credit restrictions and are now planning to take the world by storm.

Barefoot in Business is an alternative and uplifting portrait of Africa, a world away from aid and AIDS,revealing what life is life for 21st Century business women in Uganda. This 45-minute documentary is only the start of the story, however. Five years later, Carol has formed strong bonds with the women featured and this film is a launchpad for the incredible products you can watch being made – and buy – from the Barefoot in Business Marketplace.

Watch the film, buy the bags and play your part in levelling the playing field for women everywhere.

Carol Cooke

FILM DIRECTOR & FOUNDER OF SCRUMPTIOUS PRODUCTIONS

I set up Scrumptious back in 2010 with big ambitions of changing the world one film at a time but absolutely no business experience.  I didn’t go to business school so these women have been my education in entrepreneurship and I learned so much from them in the process of making the film that it simply didn’t feel right just to walk away, wish them luck and move onto my next project once production had ended.

It especially didn’t make sense to do so when the response from everyone who watched the film was so overwhelmingly positive - “Where can I buy these products?  How can I support these women?” - and, when the message from the women themselves was so clear:

“We want your orders not your aid.”
