Here at Barefoot in Business, we’re on a mission to empower our fellow female entrepreneurs in Uganda and inspire the next generation across the UK. We’ve teamed up with some of Britain’s top women in business to create a free Entrepreneurship Academy for schools that trains pupils in the basics of business and enables them to curate and sell their very own tote bag Collection made in Uganda.
how it works
Our award-winning Entrepreneurship Academy is funded through Barefoot in Business tote bag sales and sponsorship from individuals and organisations who share our passion for education and equality. This is a tailor-made opportunity to engage with your local community, celebrate your commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and increase your talent pipeline - all the while helping fundraise for schools in your area.
When you sign up, we match-make you with a school(s) and tailor your sponsorship package to your budget and preferred level of engagement. This could see you funding the project from afar or offering staff or student volunteers to help with the in-class sessions and host the final Collection launch. It’s entirely up to you. Our team will be on hand every step of the way to ensure the maximum impact and best experience for everyone involved - just like we did for Notre Dame Primary School and the University of Glasgow, Adam Smith Business School.
the impact
“ Our Barefoot in Business partnership gives our students the opportunity to go out into the community and use their knowledge and skills to support and mentor others, and provides them with the chance to think more broadly about what ‘business for good’ means in terms of fostering global and local partnerships.
The initiative connects and strengthens the School’s and Barefoot’s shared goal of teaching and empowering local people in the long term, to acquire skills and reflect upon their entrepreneurial skills in an enlightening and enterprising manner, and addresses real-world challenges for all involved. ”
“I took part in this project as I felt the majority of my degree was based on profit-making enterprises, and I wanted to widen my scope of business experience at university.
For me, the best thing was seeing the children get so invested in the process and seeing their confidence build over the program. I would absolutely recommend this to other students. It’s a wonderful experience, not only personally but also professionally. I think there’s so much that can be learned from the younger generation!”
“I enjoyed the challenge of teaching the children about marketing, management and other business-related knowledge for the first time. My favourite part was helping the children with filming. It was impressive and memorable when I saw the kids arranging all the filming by themselves like grown-ups, at the moment I was proud of them to be this independent and proactive.”
“I would definitely recommend becoming a Barefoot in Business sponsor. You get back more than you give, it feels good to be part of something bigger and to encourage the young businesswomen of the future to learn from our experiences.”
